I was amazed at one moment of how people think an online store is an easy thing to do. Why do they think so? Because they see only the advantages, the fact that they don’t have to pay rent for the office, for people selling their products, etc. But what they don’t see here is how will they bring people to their website, and this, my friends, is the most difficult thing to do.
While with a regular store the most important thing to have is THE LOCATION, here on the internet, it is not the same. Here we all start the same and we are all on ground level. What really counts is how you bring your store where people are. It is , as you probably see, exactly the other way around.Is not the location picked up where people are, but you must bring people to where you are. Now, how difficult can this be?
Let me tell you a little story. Imagine I have a website selling ecommerce templates, osCommerce themes, CRE Loaded templates, you get the picture. Oh, wait, I do have such a site! Hmm, well, so I do have the website and I do sell such designs. But did you ever wonder why you find on the internet so many free ecommerce templates? Why do I distribute myself such free osCommerce templates? Just think about it. They are traffic magnets, people want one free e-commerce template and look for it. That means traffic and building traffic is not an easy thing to do, my friends, but this is exactly what you will need to do when starting your own internet business!
That is why I say that running an online store is not an easy thing to do!
Build your confidence, trust, customers will come and money also
One of the problems a popular website will need to face is spam. People spam a lot on the internet and I don’t quite understand why, from my point of view it doesn’t make sense, but hey, if they do it, probably they do it for a reason. And what’s the best reason than money?!
Most of the sites that spam are related to a shady area of ecommerce, adult products. While I am not going to speak about this here, I wanted to make you aware that spam is not the way to go. I am not speaking here from a legal point of view, but from a long term relationship point of view. The best way to make your ecommerce site is to build a relationship with your customers and to make them grow with you, to make them understand why you bring vaue to them and why they should continue the relationship with you and with your site.
When somebody spams, it is a total different approach, people hide, don’t want to decline their identity, because it is illegal, but also because they probably have different sites and don’t want their image be associated to spaming. This is true, believe me, there are people spaming for some sites while maintaining good ones, clean and with a strong name.
That is why I say that the best way is to just build up your trust, your name with your customers and in time money will follow.
Ecommerce is easy, right? Not quite, my friends…
One of the biggest errors people make when thinking to build an ecommerce website is that they think it will be easy, or at least easier than in the regular down-to-earth environment they are already used to. I mean, if you have a regular brick and stone shop in the city, it is not easy, you know that, because you struggle to make it work day by day, but in the online environment it must be easier, because there are so many online stores out there and they all work fine!
Wrong! Nothing is easy in the online commerce! The key to a regular brick and stone shop is the place where you have the store, so people pass near your store and visit it, so the most important thing is traffic! Well, what do you know?In the online commerce, traffic is also the most important thing! Just that there is a small difference! No matter where you put your store, in the beginning you will have the same traffic: zero!No traffic!
Well, then, how do you bring people to that wonderful store of yours? Eee, that’s the tricky part, my friends and that is the reason for which I say ecommerce is not as easy as it looks like!When you build an online store, you don’t have traffic so you need to build it day by day, bit by bit, visitor by visitor! You need to bring people over, they won’t come by themselves! That’s the most difficult part of online commerce! That is why, no matter how many experience you have in traditional commerce, you need to learn big time how to drive traffic to your store! That is why you need to read, learn, test, experiment!

Start your own ecommerce website but be wise about it!
These days, everybody speaks about starting your home business, there are so many tutorials on how to start your business from home! Personally, I think this is great since starting your own business is the way to go for everybody and I recommend this without any doubt. The fact is that you don’t need to let go everything you do at the moment, you can start your own online store from home, in your spare time without dropping your current job.
I don’t write this article to teach you how to do it, there are too many articles out there telling you about this, seems that everybody is an expert these days. The fact is that there are so many tutorials on it that you can not make the difference between a good article and a spam one.I have even tried to link a few articles from this post but when I have seen that the first 3 articles that I clicked are spam, I kind of stepped back.
This made me think a bit. The fact is that when I want to read about this, I don’t just go on a search engine and look for matterial, no, I go to some websites or blogs that I regularrily read and I have there all the information I need. This is the way I suggest you do it also.
You should subscribe to a few good blogs that you find and stick to them. From my personal experience, too many are, well, too many! You will never manage to read them all so you’d better stick to a few good ones that will give you enough information to learn your way throught it. Just don’t resume yoursef at reading them! Instead, try yourself. In time you will see you will fail a few times, but each of these failures will teach you something and after a good period you will manage to make a living out of it!
Remember to not put your hopes from the start in this home business and neverthink that right from day one you will drop your 9 to 5 job! Instead, take it easy, one step at a time, build your ecommerce website and start working on it, promoting it, making it known. In time it will pay!
Is Ecommerce a goal in itself?
Is E-commerce a goal in itself or is just something that you add to your website? This question should be asked before joining the ride.
I have been asked a few weeks ago if I could add an ecommerce module to a website that was a catalogue of products. Yes, I can, just that my mind immediately jumped to a question: does the client actually know what this implies? Is he ready for e-commerce from the point of view of putting effort into this new side of his business?
In many times, people want ecommerce modules because they think they will immediately sell, which is not the case. They need to put everything they have into that website in order to make it work and not only to add the technical capabilities.
That is why I advise every client I have to look into this very carefully and learn as much as possible about ecommerce before joining this beautiful but difficult ride!
Ecommerce website templates sales are low in the hot season!
I was previously speaking about the fact that traffic for online commerce websites diminishes over sumertime. This is actually true for more than ecommerce websites, but in my particular case, also. But as a matter of fact, beside traffic, what diminishes over time is not only traffic but also the number of sales. People buy less over sumertime, it is a proven thing.
So, every online shop probably has this problem and observed it: sales are low in the hot season. No matter you sell ecommerce templates like I do, or other kind of products, generally speakin, sales are low. OK, if you sell summer related items like sunbath related products or scuba diving products or tshirts then it is probably not obeying this pattern since these products are seasonal and they won’t have sales outside summer time. Nobody will buy scuba diving products in the winter, I guess.
But Zen Cart templates, CRE Loaded templates, they are products that work all year long, just that not that great in this part of the year. They will probably jump again when autumn will come, it is the case with other websites I run and I guess this site won’t make a difference.
I will wait and see!

One of the things I have observed in this period, on more sites, is the fact that in this period, the traffic is not that great. Actually it is not great at all, it is very poor. I don’t know, it is probably the weather, the summer time, people being less and less interested in internet and more and more interested in summer, nature, sun, which is a good thing, if you think about it.
Just that in some cases, this nature-sun approach means less traffic, less sales, less business. I wonder if this is going to have such a strong impact on e-commerce templates market as well. This site is still in the beginning of it’s life so I don’t have a previous traffic to compare it to today’s traffic, but I have other websites that experience a strange traffic these days and seems that last year, around the same period things were the same, very strange.
I hope to be this, to be the summer influence and not something else. Anyway, as far as I know, osCommerce templates, Zen Cart website templates and CRE loaded templates, e-commerce templates in general, have a traffic increase during summertime, the opposite of what other domains suffer.
For example, religious based templates don’t work great in this period, summer time brings a sensible decrease of traffic until august, when it is supposed to go better again. I asl myself if this will be the case with online sales in general or not.

I have observed that people are looking for ecommerce animal templates, and more precisely for osCommerce animal templates, that means that pet shop business works well. Actually, I think that online pet shops are nice, you can see the animals in pictures, some of the shops have movies with the animals, so it is quite funny to watch a dog playing around and jumping and barking. It may be better for sales, people get amused and buy easier.

I won’t help that much you if I tell you buy an ecommerce web application, buy an e-commerce template, hosting and upload your products. But I will help you if I will tell you that you should not expect overnight results and money.
In online stores, money don’t come fast, not overnight. You need to build an audience. This is the main difference compared to a regular store. If with a store you need a good location with a lot of traffic, here you need to put up the store and build that traffic day by day, gain visibility and good reputation and this happens in time.
That is why I say that you need determination. Sometimes, results can be frustrating and you won’t get what you expect right from the start. You want sales and you won’t get that many, in the beginning. That’s all right, you now, just wait and it will come! After hard work and continuously pursuing your target, you will gain traffic and visibility and implicitly, sales!
That’s what it takes to be in online commerce!
